The present perfect (part two)       El presente perfecto (parte dos)

 

Many times we use the present perfect for actions and situations that started in the past and have continued up to the present. This shows a kind of connection between past and present: the action in the past is finished and the result is in the present Muchas veces utilizamos el presente perfecto para acciones o situaciones que comenzaron en el pasado  y han continuado hasta el presente. Esto muestra una especie de conexión entre pasado y presente: la acción o situación pasada terminó y el resultado se manifiesta en el presente

 

 

Some useful notes to remember about this tense: Algunas notas útiles para recordar de este tiempo verbal:

 

 

    In the present perfect there is almost always a connection with the present  En el presente perfecto casi siempre hay una conexión con el presente
Examples     Ejemplos

I have lost my umbrella. (I don't have it at present) He perdido mi paraguas. (No lo tengo en este momento)

Ow! I have burnt myself. (A little accident an instant ago)

¡Ay! Me he quemado. (un pequeño accidente un instante atrás)

Oh...I have forgotten her address. (I can't remember it just now)

Ay...pero he olvidado su dirección. (No lo recuerdo justo ahora)

                  

 

 

 

 In the present perfect the time period is not finished: En el presente perfecto el período de tiempo no está finalizado:
Examples     Ejemplos

I have read two books this month. (We are maybe in the middle of the month) He leído dos libros en lo que va del mes. (A lo mejor estamos en el medio del mes)

I have already visited three cities. (We are visiting Cuba) Ya he visitado tres ciudades. (Estamos visitando Cuba)

They haven't had any lunch yet.(It is almost noon)

No han almorzado aún...(Es casi mediodía)

 

 

 

Time is not mentioned in the present perfect tense El tiempo no se menciona en el presente perfecto

Mark has failed his driven test again... Marcos ha reprobado el examen  de manejo nuevamente.

My husband has gone! ¡Mi marido se ha ido!

I have been to Africa. He estado en África.

                  

 

But again, time is recent in this tense: it is a recent happening Pero nuevamente, el tiempo es reciente: es un suceso reciente

Mr Lopez has just arrived at  La Plata. El señor López ha llegado a La Plata.

I haven't finished my morning round.

No he terminado mi ronda matinal.

I have just seen a UFO. Acabo de ver un ovni.

 

The present perfect is often used with for and since El presente perfecto se utiliza a menudo con for y since (durante y desde)

 

Luke has lived here for 25 years. Lucas ha vivido aquí por 25 años.
Luke has lived here since 1982. Lucas ha vivido aquí desde 1982.
I have worked in that factory for 10 years. Trabajé en esa fábrica durante 10 años.
I have worked in that factory since 1998. Trabajé en esa fábrica desde 1998.

 

 

 

 

The difference between been to and gone to: La diferencia entre haber estado en  y haberse ido a:

Ann is on holiday. She has gone to Italy Ana está de vacaciones. Se ha ido a Italia

(she is there now or on her way there)

(ella está allí ahora o está yendo para allá)

He is back in Argentina now...He has been to Brazil Ha regresado a la Argentina ahora...Ha estado en Brasil

(he was there but now he has come back)

(estuvo allí pero ahora ha regresado)

    I can't remember her name at present...I have   it. (forget /forgotten)

  He can't go to the party. He has   his right leg. (break / broken)

  Good news...The president has  (resign / resigned)
