There is and there are. Some and any.

We use There is / There are to say that something exists (or does not exist). The real subject usually comes after There is / There are.

Usamos la estructura "hay...." para simplemente decir que algo existe (o no existe). El verdadero sujeto va generalmente después de "hay..."

En castellano la estructura es diferente del inglés. No hay sujeto. La oración es unimembre y lo que sigue a " hay " es objeto directo.

Note: To express the idea of quantity, we usually have to use "some" and ''any" with there is and there are. This happens when we have to mention an unspecified amount of something, for example, when we are using uncountable nouns. We generally use some for positive statements, and any for negative and interrogative ones. (See some and any with the verb to have)

Para expresar la idea de cantidad, a menudo tenemos que usar some and any con there is y there are. Esto sucede cuando tenemos que mencionar una cantidad no definida de algo, por ejemplo con sustantivos incontables. To say the opposite, (the negative form of this structure), use isn't (is + not) or aren't (are + not)		Para usar la forma negativa, y decir lo opuesto, utilice isn't (is + not) o aren`t (are + not)
There isn't a balcony		No hay balcón.
There isn`t an orange on the table		No hay una naranja sobre la mesa.

As almost always happens in English, to make questions with this structure change the order of the sentence at the begining.		Como casi siempre sucede en inglés, para formular preguntas con esta estructura debes cambiar el orden inicial de la oración.
Is there a balcony in the flat?		¿Hay balcón en el departamento?
Is there a Post Office near hear?		¿Hay un correo cerca de aqui?
Are there two telephone lines?		¿Hay dos líneas de teléfono?
Is there any sugar in the sugar pot?		¿Hay algo de azúcar en la azucarera?
