Let's go on with the present continuous

  


Seguimos con el presente progresivo
 

 We were using  verbs ending in ing:

Examples:        work+ ing = working   (I am working today)

                            read + ing = reading    (He is reading a book)

                            sleep+ ing = sleeping   (She is sleeping)

Unfortunately the spelling is not always that easy. There are some exceptions, such as:

 

 

Estábamos usando verbos terminados en ing:

Ejemplos:    trabajar = trabajando (Estoy trabajando hoy)

                        leer = leyendo   (Está leyendo un libro)

                        dormir= durmiendo (Está durmiendo)

Desafortunadamente la ortografía no es siempre tan fácil. Hay algunas excepciones,  tales como:

 

                                                                                                                            

1 Sometimes we  have to double a  letter: verbs that end in a vowel plus a consonant double that final consonant.
Examples:

run + ing = running

get + ing = getting
swim + ing = swimming
 

But if before the consonant there are two vowels, then the final consonant is not doubled.

rain : raining

 

 


1 A veces tenemos que duplicar una letra: los verbos terminados en una vocal más una consonante duplican la consonante.

Ejemplos:

correr

obtener, conseguir, (get tiene muchísimos significados)

nadar

Pero si antes de la consonante existen DOS vocales, entonces la consonante final  no se duplica:

llover

 

 

2 Other times the final e is removed: in general, verbs thar end in e change that e for ing directly. close - closing. An exception is see -seeing.
 

Examples:
    move + ing = moving

   write + ing = writing
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4 Otras veces omitimos la e final: En general, los verbos terminados en e eliminan la e y agregan ING: close - closing. Una excepción es see - seeing.
 

Ejemplos:

Nota que en castellano usamos la terminación del gerundio (ando, endo). Deberás estudiarlos de a poco: a mediada que vayas incrementando tu vocabulario.
